Okay, it’s been a while…and I’m sorry. After the Olympics, I was warned that the high of competing and the joy of the experience would soon be followed by a ‘down’ period, a post-Beijing depression, if you will. Being a fairly even-keeled person, I scoffed at the mere suggestion of this so-called hangover, and expected to bound into a new routine of yoga, school and spending time with family. This was the case for the first little while–until I felt the sting of missing my teammates and a deep longing for the competitive environment that we so often take for granted.
Hi all! Just a quick note to let you know that I recently updated the photo gallery with the rest of my pictures from the Olympics, and also added a special “Gnomes Away from Homes–Olympic Edition”. You won’t be disappointed…
I will write a longer entry in a couple of days, but suffice it to say that it has been difficult coming back down to earth after an unbelievable experience in Beijing. It’s lovely to be home with family, though.
Thanks again for all your support!
We were in the dining hall today talking about what a surreal life we are presently leading. We walk around, shoulder to shoulder with world-class athletes, running into the likes of Bolt, Messi and Nadal; all our food and accommodations are gratis; we shuttle out to watch Olympic events each day like it’s just ’something to do’; and then we get to party with everyone at night. As Robyn so aptly put it: “It’s like we’re at summer camp”. I wouldn’t disagree.
